How do buyers ask AI to find a SaaS product?
Unlike ecommerce shoppers asking "can I return this brand?", people looking for software ask about use and alternatives. The question types below cover nearly every SaaS pre-purchase search, and each maps to a page you should have.
| How buyers ask | Example | Page you need |
|---|---|---|
| The best tool for a purpose | best AI assistant for small business owners | A list or ranking page that answers exactly one question |
| Alternatives to a product | alternatives to X | An alternatives page: how you differ from X in which scenarios |
| Comparing two products | X vs Y | A comparison page with a side-by-side table |
| Whether it connects to the tools I already use | does it work with Notion and Slack | An integrations page: one section per integration, saying what it can and cannot do |
| How much, and is it worth it | X pricing per user | A pricing page: price, currency and billing period written as text |
Pagent is an AI assistant ranking site. We read its data on 2026-11-06: 37 ranking pages, each aimed at one such question, for example Pagent's "connects to Gmail, Calendar and Notion" ranking page, which answers "which AI assistant works best with the apps you already use". It is an example of page structure; we cite no rankings or scores here.
How does SaaS differ from ecommerce?
| Item | Ecommerce (see the other guide) | SaaS |
|---|---|---|
| What buyers mainly ask | Specs, shipping, returns, whether it ships to a country | Use case, alternatives, integrations, price, plan differences |
| Most important pages | Product pages and policy pages | Comparison, pricing and integrations pages |
| Structured data | Product + Offer, plus shipping and return fields | SoftwareApplication, plus a rating or reviews |
| Third-party evidence | Reviews and roundups | Reviews, roundups and user-community discussion |
| How often it changes | Stock and prices change often | Plans and features change often, so show an update date |
For the ecommerce field requirements see How do you get ChatGPT to recommend your product on an export-focused independent store?. Below we cover only what is specific to SaaS.
What goes on comparison, pricing and integrations pages?
1. Comparison page: a side-by-side table saying who it suits and who it does not
One page or section per competitor, listing price, features and limits, and honestly naming the scenarios where the competitor fits better. See How do you write an “X vs Y” comparison page that AI cites?.
2. Pricing page: prices are text, not images
For each plan write the price, currency, billing period, what is included and the update date so AI does not misread "how much". Item-by-item requirements in How should a pricing page be written so AI answers your price correctly?.
3. Integrations page: one subheading per integration
Make the subheading the question, such as "Does it connect to Notion?". Answer yes or no first, then say what exactly it can do. These pages are often decisive in rankings because the buyer's real question is whether it fits their current workflow.
4. One ranking page per question
If your field has no independent scoring page, you can build one; see How should an independent scorecard ranking page be organised so AI can cite it? for how to organise it.
How do you write the structured data?
Google's software app documentation requires name, requires one of aggregateRating or review, and recommends applicationCategory and operatingSystem. Only when the required fields are present is the page eligible for a rich result (checked 2026-11-06; the page shows no update date). The rating must come from real reviews and match what is visible on the page.

}
The name, price and rating are placeholders; replace them with your real ones. For the trade-offs between types see Does structured data help AI search?.
How much do third-party articles matter for SaaS?
On 2026-10-26 we evaluated GammaSlide (a SaaS product): AI read 28 cited pages, of which 19 were pages listing several similar products. In other words, when AI answers "which tool is good", it mostly reads lists written by others. To get onto such lists see How do I get into “best X tools” list articles?.
FAQ
How does a SaaS product get recommended by ChatGPT?
First let AI crawlers read your pages, then build comparison, pricing and integrations pages around the way buyers ask, and aim for third-party roundups. There is no way to guarantee a recommendation.
What structured data does a SaaS need?
Google's software app documentation requires name plus one of aggregateRating or review, and recommends applicationCategory and operatingSystem. The rating must be real and match the page.
Is the pricing page important?
Yes. Buyers often ask "how much"; write prices as text, including currency and billing period, and show an update date.
Should I write an integrations page?
Yes. Buyers often ask whether it connects to tools they already use; give each integration a question-style subheading, and answer yes or no before expanding.
How is this different from ecommerce?
Ecommerce focuses on product page fields and return and shipping policy; SaaS focuses on comparison, pricing and integrations pages. Both need third-party reviews.
